Paytonisms
Payton still says "blue-bay-yay" and "straw-bay-yay" and "Chey-yay." And she's starting to say band-aid, but it's often still "Band-o."
Blog tag!
I'm being forced to update Payton's blog by my "Bunny" friend Amy in OR! Apparently blog-tagging is a a popular thing in the blogging world. Someone lists 10 things about themselves and then they tag others to do the same. So here it goes...
10 things (some) people don't know about me:
1. I've been known to sit at a Pai Gow Poker or Texas Hold 'Em table in Vegas for stretches of 12 hours at a time.
2. I majored in Journalism in college, with an emphasis in Broadcast Production Management, with the intention of making a career in sports broadcasting. I wanted to direct live sporting events for television.
3. When I was a litle kid (like 7 or 8), I used to type up a little newspaper on a typewriter my Mom had at home. My mom would make copies at work and I would put them on the doors of houses in the neighborhood. Our street was shaped like a U, and I called my publication "The Horseshoe News."
4. I also have a degree in English Literature, with an empasis in Shakespeare.
5. I am a huge geek for post-apocalyptic/survival scenarios: fiction, movies, etc. I love the TV show Jericho. There is just something about the problem-solving aspect of it... Is the water okay to drink? How would we tap into the water source without electricity? How would we get the power grid up and running? How would we plant food when most seeds are no longer self-germinating? etc. etc.
6. I have a huge crush on Skeet Ulrich, another reason I love the TV show Jericho. Skeet Ulrich AND nuclear war?! Get OUT! Needless to say, I was hooked.
7. I was in a sorority in college (Kappa Delta).
8. I went through a big "country" phase in my mid-twenties. My friend Danielle and I haunted the country bars, danced, dated cowboys, and went to "Country Jam" in Grand Junction. I wore cowboy boots, "Ropers," Rocky Mountain jeans, hats, the whole she-bang. We also still snowboarded a TON, and listened to ska and 311. I have a fun caricature of Danielle and I, two cowgirls on snowboards. It's a pretty good representation of that time in our lives! I do still enjoy listening to country music on occasion.
9. My hair is almost totally gray. I dye it, of course, but I'd look like a Grandma if I didn't. I started getting gray hair in high school, and I started dyeing it at age 26 because that's when people started saying "Wow, your hair is really gray!" Hal is pretty gray too, so Payton is probably doomed to turn gray early.
10. My eyes are green, but one of them has a brown spot on it, like a freckle. It gets darker in the sun. People who have known me for years will suddenly notice it and say "Hey, one of your eyes is brown!"
I'm afraid all the bloggers I know have been tagged, so this isn't going any further than me. But I hope you learned something new!

Rain rain go away
Payton has been downright conversational lately! Last night it was raining, and she said:
P: I don't like the rain. Do you like the rain, Daddy?
Hal: I like the rain.
Payton: No, Daddy. You no like the rain.
Hal: Yes, I do.
P: Noooo, Daddy. You no like the rain!
Hal: I like the rain because it makes the grass grow.
Me: The grass drinks the rain when it is thirsty.
P: No, Mommy! The grass no drink the rain!
Me: Yes, it does. And so do the flowers and the plants. They get thirsty, that's why we water them with the watering can. But they also like to drink the rain.
P: Plants and flowers drink the rain?
Me: Yes.
P: Does Keystone like the rain?
Me: I don't know. Does Keystone like the rain?
P: Yeah!
Then she goes over to the window and says "Rain, rain go away. Mommy and Payton want to play!"
I think one of the funniest things about Payton saying "I don't like the rain" is how well she enunciates it. She puts a very hard "t" and "k" in there. It makes her seem very emphatic.

Donna asked to keep Payton overnight on Saturday, so we said "OKAY!." Payton was so cute -- when we got there, she walked right on in and gave Donna a hug, then proceeded to play and chatter away! "Look Nana, look at me. I blow bubbles!" I guess she slept fine in Donna's trundle bed in the spare room (where she slept with Marston a couple of weeks ago). When Hal and I left, I said "Bye, Payton. Mommy and Daddy are leaving now." And Payton said "Bye, Mommmy! Bye, Daddy! See you later." She couldn't care less! It was awesome.
She has been into her hugs and kisses lately, though. The other day she was leaving with Hal. She got to the front door, then turned around and said "I need a hug and a kiss!" She ran back to me for her hug and kiss, then went right back to the front door and said "Bye, Mommy!"
Payton has been a PILL at bedtime, though. I don't know if it was because she slept in the trundle bed at Donna's, but she keeps saying she wants to sleep in Mommy and Daddy's big bed, or "on the ground." She's been a wreck almost every night this week. Once I get her settled down and quiet and sleepy, I put her down in her crib without a problem, but it's tough getting to that point. We just bought a mattress for her new bed, too, but I'm a bit afraid to set it up -- I don't know if she'll stay on it.

Busy weekend
Whew, Payton was a pill last night! She was a pill at school on Monday too. I think she was still recovering from the weekend. She spent the night at Nana's on Saturday night, along with her cousins Marston and Phoebe. Donna said she was good, though, and went right down to bed.
We met them at Heritage Square on Sunday, and the kids went on a bunch of rides (including her first pony ride!). Then we took Payton home for a nap. She woke up a bear, but made a nice recovery when we went to a concert in the park with our friends Jim and Jennifer and their daughter Grace, who is a couple of months older than Payton. Payton woke up during the night on Sunday. I wonder if it was just too much stimulation over the weekend.

Hiking at Roxborough with Jen and Grace
Hello! I've been so bad about updating this blog... still need to add birthday pictures and Disney World pictures! But my friend Jen e-mailed me these pictures. Jen, Grace, Payton and I went on a hike at Roxborough State Park yesterday. Payton has been really good about staying in her backpack lately.
