Hiking at Roxborough with Jen and Grace

Hello! I've been so bad about updating this blog... still need to add birthday pictures and Disney World pictures! But my friend Jen e-mailed me these pictures. Jen, Grace, Payton and I went on a hike at Roxborough State Park yesterday. Payton has been really good about staying in her backpack lately.

Spice Girl!

Today as I was putting my lunch together, Payton spotted my hard-boiled egg on the counter. It resembles the "'tend" (pretend) eggs she got for her birthday, so she came over and claimed it. I let her have it, thinking "What harm can she do with it?"

Well, she immediately took it upstairs to her kitchen, where she peeled off some of the shell and proceeded to crumble it into a frying pan. Hal found her doing that, and she told him "I cooking eggs!"

When it was time to leave for school, she didn't want to go. I asked if she was ready to leave, and she told me "I cooking!" Eventually I persuaded her to bring the rest of the egg and get in the car. Keystone cleaned up the rest.

Payton likes to smell the spices from the spice rack. When were in Breckenridge with Mimi and Papa last month, Mimi gave her an empty sesame seed bottle, which she loved. We brought it home. The other day, I left the garlic salt on the grill outside, and later I couldn't find it anywhere. I asked Hal if he had seen it. He said the last time he saw it, Payton had it.

Sure enough, I found it (and the sesame seed bottle) on the shelf in Payton's kitchen!

Tubby Tubbies

Just before we left for school this morning, Payton spotted the Teletubby figures from her birthday cake on the counter. She grabbed two, but couldn't reach the other two. She was on her tippie toes, saying "Tubbies? Reach it!"

After I gave her the other two, she juggled the four figures all the way to the car. In the car, she was saying "Winkie Dippie LaLa Po!" Then she started singing the Teletubbie song. It goes something like this...

"Winkie. Dippie. LaLa. Po (in a deep voice)
Tubby tubby
Hellll - lo!"

She wanted to take all the Teletubbies inside, but I told her she could only take one. She had LaLa, but once we got inside, she was very agitated about not having Po. So we had to go back to the car and swap LaLa for Po.

Inside, she was very excited to show Po to her teacher. Unfortunately, Po disappeared sometime during the day. In the car at the end of the day, she was happy to see her other Teletubbies, but kept saying "Winkie Dippie LaLa... where Po? Mama, where Po?"

Payton's Birthday Party

We had Payton's birthday party on Saturday. Her whole family came, as well as the next door neighbors and her friend Grace. There were eight kids, plus our neighbors have a 9-day-old, Addison! She's so tiny, less than six pounds. Payton did great, and, as my Mom said, "held her own" well with the big kids. Of course, her six-year-old cousins take great care of her, and she loves following her cousin Tristan around.

We were supposed to get 18 inches of snow Thursday-Friday, and miraculously got nothing. It was an absolutely beautiful day. People were clamoring for shade!

Hal picked up her cake and balloons while she was taking her nap, so when she woke up and came out of her room, she saw the balloons. She said "Oooohhhh... ballooons!" Then we told her that Mimi, Papa, and Nana were waiting downstairs, and she was very happy. She got a little shy when we got outside, but as soon as her cousin Phoebe arrived, she was off and running!

The hit of the party was a pop-up play tent we put up in the yard. The kids had a ball in that. We also had an egg hunt, with the big kids hunting in the yard and the little ones on the patio. Unfortunately, Payton found an egg that contained some jelly beans (most had stickers, toys, etc.) and was obsessed with finding more. It was difficult to get her to focus on opening presents.

Some cute moments...

Payton got a set of six very real-looking eggs for her kitchen. She tried to gather them all to carry to her kitchen immediately.

Payton also got a "magic" bottle for her dolls. Remember those --- you tip them upside down and the milk disappears? Anyway, I told her it was for her baby, and she took it over to the neighbor with the nine-day-old baby and handed it to her! Everyone melted for that one.

Tristan was helpful in showing Payton how to blow out her candles. She blew right along with him! And she loved her Teletubby cake!

I saw Payton come out of the play tent once, rubbing her head. She wasn't crying, but she was obviousy looking for a little sympathy. I started to call her over, but then she spotted Aunt Sarah, who was closest. She went to Aunt Sarah, got a kiss on the head, and headed back to the tent, still rubbing her head.

During the egg hunt, Payton would find an egg, take it to the swing, climb up, sit down, and then open her egg up to see what was inside and enjoy it.

When Payton would get a little bit overwhelmed, she would wander off for a minute or two on her own, for a little "alone" time.

2-year-old well check

Payton's well checkup was on Friday. She is 36" tall (95th percentile) and 28 lbs (75th percentile). Tall girl! She is doing well with everything, except pooping. The doctor asked how often Payton poops, if it's solid, etc. I told him she poops every two or so days. He said "I usually don't tell parents this, but give her some juice! And DON'T dilute it!" It seems to be helping!

Easter

We went to Mimi and Papa's for Easter. Payton really enjoyed her cousins, especially Tristan!

The kids had an egg hunt. Payton found her first egg, opened it up, found the candy inside, and deftly opened the Reese's peanut butter and popped it in her mouth. Then she moved on to the next candy. Where did my child learn this?!

Before we got to the stop sign at the end of the street, Payton was asking "Where's my Tristan?"
